Steven Smith, MD, is an orthopedic surgeon who established Northland Orthopedics & Sports Medicine, serving Kansas City, Missouri, on Clay Edwards Drive in 2017.
In anticipation of becoming a physician, Dr. Smith earned a bachelor’s degree in pre-professional zoology from Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Missouri. After, he completed his medical degree in 1994 from the Carver College of Medicine - University of Iowa in Iowa City. Later, he completed a residency in orthopedics at the Indiana University Medical Center in Indianapolis, Indiana.
In 2000, Dr. Smith joined Northland Bone & Joint and continued as a partner with the practice until 2016. During his time at Northland Bone & Joint, he received his certification in orthopedic surgery through the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery. In 2017, Dr. Smith opened a private practice, Northland Orthopedics & Sports Medicine, where he currently provides the Kansas City area with treatments such as joint replacement surgery and physical therapy.
In addition to the more than 19 years of experience Dr. Smith has as a private practice physician, he also acts as the team physician for Park Hill South and Park Hill School Districts for the last 18 years. Additionally, he has been serving as the team physician for Park University in Parkville, Missouri, for almost two decades.
Additionally, Dr. Smith has served as the president of the medical staff at North Kansas City Hospital and St. Luke’s Northland Hospital. He has also served as the chairman of the surgery department at North Kansas City Hospital.
In college, Dr. Smith played collegiate football. This experience allows him to empathize with his patients while providing them with the care they need.
